LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special Adds Billy Dee Williams & Kelly Marie Tran

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special has added a few new stars to its cast, including Kelly Marie Tran and Billy Dee Williams. Tran is most well known for her performance as Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Williams for the iconic role of Lando Calrissian in the original Star Wars trilogy. Now, both actors are making their way back to the Star Wars franchise for a special LEGO event.

The recently announced LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be available for streaming on Disney+ this holiday season. The humorous concept refers to the 1978 Star Wars holiday special that is now widely considered the worst Star Wars movie of all time. This new LEGO version will be a way for writers to poke fun at the terrible holiday special and hopefully create something good out of it.

In anticipation of the LEGO special, Disney+ sent out a press release detailing the holiday show's cast. In addition to Tran and Williams, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will feature Anthony Daniels, known for playing C-3PO, as well as several stars from The Clone Wars, including Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers). These actors will be reprising their original Star Wars roles in LEGO form, meaning viewers will get to see characters from all the different trilogies interacting with each other.

Tran is an especially notable addition to this cast, considering her experience in the Star Wars franchise. After some severe harassment from Star Wars fans following the release of The Last Jedi, Tran was forced to leave social media. Her role in The Rise of Skywalker was also significantly pared down, much to her fans' disappointment. The actress has stated that she would want to return to her role as Rose in future Star Wars content, under the right conditions.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is Tran’s first appearance as Rose since the sequel trilogy. Though it’s a small event, hopefully, it’s a sign that Tran is finally getting positive recognition from Star Wars writers and fans alike. Ideally, the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special will be a friendly and welcoming experience for all the actors reprising their Star Wars roles.
