America Chavez is expected to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and here's why she might appear in the movie. It's been nearly four years since Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange debuted in the MCU, but his sequel is only now getting ready to go. Doctor Strange 2 is rumored to include multiple major characters from Marvel comics with ties to magic and the multiverse, including America Chavez aka Miss America.

Reports of America Chavez having a role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness began in early 2020. There were rumors that Marvel Studios was looking to bring the ultra-powerful LGBTQ hero to the big screen. Chavez is a fairly recent creation of the comics created by Nick Casey and Nick Dragotta in 2011, but she's quickly become a popular character. After months of wondering if she will be in the movie, another report claimed that Marvel was in the midst of casting a teenage girl that fits Chavez's description. Marvel has yet to confirm her involvement in the movie, but we might know who is playing her.

It was recently revealed that The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez has landed a role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The 14-year-old actress is the right age to play Chavez and could be Marvel's choice to play the character in the MCU moving forward. Even though Gomez isn't officially playing Chavez, it does line up with the rumors about Doctor Strange 2. Now that there is seemingly more evidence to support America Chavez making her MCU debut sooner than later, what is the reason behind her role in Doctor Strange 2?

Doctor Strange 2 Has A Multiverse Problem

When Marvel Studios first announced Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it immediately became clear that the multiverse will be a big part of the Phase 4 story. There have been countless theories over what drives the multiverse plot, besides it being a natural progression of Strange's story. He dipped into the multiverse in Doctor Strange and saw over 14 million possible futures in Avengers: Infinity War. With the Avengers changing the multiverse in the one path to victory, the ripple effects of their win over Thanos could be left for Doctor Strange to clean up.

While the exact story of Doctor Strange 2 hasn't been revealed, the title indicates that Strange will have to deal with chaos across the multiverse. Some have suggested that Scarlet Witch breaks the multiverse in WandaVision, which directly leads to the sequel. At the same time, others think that the Multiverse breaking could be the result of Strange's own actions or the Infinity Stones no longer being around. In any case, the multiverse will be in flux, and Doctor Strange will have to deal with the madness as the Sorcerer Supreme.

America Chavez's Powers Make Her Perfect For Doctor Strange 2

Despite the many abilities that Strange has shown in the MCU, we have not seen him actually travel throughout the multiverse on his own volition. While it is reasonable to assume that the Sorcerer Supreme could figure this out, traveling across the multiverse is kind of America Chavez's thing. One of her defining powers is the ability to create star-shaped portals that allow her to travel across the multiverse. Chavez's powers aren't just limited to going to different universes, as she's also accidentally gone back in time as well.

This power set inherently makes America Chavez a natural fit to be in a multiverse-driven story like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A broken multiverse could explain how Chavez and Strange cross paths. Chavez might accidentally wind up on Strange's radar due to her multiverse travels, or she could even potentially be tied to the reason for the madness. No matter what the case may be, having someone with Chavez's powers will undoubtedly come in hand when it comes to saving the multiverse.

America Chavez Is Probably From Another MCU Dimension

Not only can America Chavez travel throughout the multiverse, but she will likely be from another dimension if the MCU is even remotely faithful to her comic book origin. Chavez comes from the Utopian Parallel, which exists outside of time and the multiverse under the watch of Demiurge (who is Scarlet Witch's son Wiccan after becoming an omnipotent being). Chavez grows up in this space for the first six years of her life, until the Utopian Parallel is put in danger. A black hole nearly moves the Utopian Parallel to the multiverse, but Chavez's mothers sacrifice themselves to stop it. America left Utopia not too long after to become a hero.

Although Marvel Studios has certainly taken some liberties in adapting Marvel characters and storylines for the MCU, it is difficult to imagine them not keeping Chavez's multiverse origin. In fact, it is possible that the MCU's version of these events could even be tied to the state that the multiverse is in during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Instead of black holes threatening the Utopian Parallel and Chavez fleeing as a child, perhaps the MCU will see the same threat that is breaking the multiverse in Doctor Strange 2 be tied to Utopia's threat and America's mothers' sacrifices.

Doctor Strange 2 Can Set America Chavez Up As A Cap Replacement

America Chavez's introduction in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could also be used to set up her incredibly bright MCU future. One potential outcome for her is that she'll become the next Captain America after Falcon. Chavez hasn't taken on this mantle officially in the comics before, but there was a tease that this is her possible destiny. In All-New Hawkeye Vol. 2 #3, a look 30 years into the future shows Chavez has become Captain America Chavez. She doesn't have the usual shield, but it is possible the MCU could take America down this path in the future.

Even if she doesn't become Captain America, Chavez should be a key piece to the MCU moving forward, and her debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can show how. She will be the latest stepping stone for Marvel to build the Young Avengers, which is clearly happening throughout Phase 4. Chavez also has routinely been an integral member of the Ultimates, a cosmic-focused group featuring Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Monica Rambeau, Blue Marvel, and Galactus. All of this and much more is possible with America Chavez, and we can always count on Kevin Feige throwing a few surprises into the mix too.
