Everton returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Newcastle, thanks to goals from Aaron Lennon and Ross Barkley, to deepen the visitors' relegation worries.

Steve McClaren, who enjoyed a busy transfer window, named Andros Townsend in his starting line-up with Seydou Doumbia on the bench but it was the hosts who began the game the stronger.

Everton opened the scoring midway through the first half, Lennon collecting the ball on the edge of the penalty area, before firing low past Rob Elliott.

Roberto Martinez's men then made the game safe late on, with two penalties, Barkley converting from the spot after Rolando Aarons had brought down Lennon and after being fouled by Lascelles, who saw red for his challenge.
