Atletico Madrid are back in action on April 4, when they travel to face Sevilla. Deportivo Alaves’ search for a win will continue on the same day when they host Celta Vigo.
Atletico Madrid manage to cling on to the slender lead, beating Deportivo Alaves by a single goal to nil - thanks to Suarez’s near-post header after 54 minutes. After a poor first half, Simeone’s side showed much more endeavour in the second, looking to get it forward with increased pace. Their dominance on the ball prevented the visitors from creating too many chances to trouble the goalkeeper - though a rash elbow from Savic on Rioja gave Fernandez’s side a late chance to equalise from the penalty spot (against the run of play it must be said).
Oblak was to be the hero though, diving to his left to make a fantastic stop to earn his second straight LaLiga clean sheet. Atleti escape with all three points, putting them six up on second-place Real Madrid. The narrow loss keeps Alaves in 19th.
